What is scamming?

When we talk about fraud in video games, we're referring to what is commonly known as a scam

Scamming involves deceiving or defrauding someone to obtain virtual items. In this context, virtual items include skins, objects, or cosmetic effects that players can earn or purchase within a game.

In this sense, digital scammers are similar to thieves in the real world.

Scamming covers a wide range of fraudulent techniques. While some scams are specific to certain games or platforms, they all share a common factor: they are devised and executed by at least one person with the intent to steal money or virtual items like rare and often expensive skins. These scams are usually aimed at profiting from reselling these items.

In this sense, digital scammers are similar to thieves in the real world. However, their techniques and methods can be difficult for children, teens, and even parents to recognize. Remember that scammers can deceive anyone, regardless of age or experience.
